Overview

Most document production systems are not easy to use, both for users carrying out daytoday tasks and the IT professionals tasked with maintaining and managing these systems. With complicated user interfaces at the front-end (and, in some cases, "green screen" console based interfaces at the back-end), users and administrators could require weeks of training to be able to output professional documents.

Corporate Modelling has researched, designed and produced a solution for these problems.

Features

  • Familiarity

Document Production uses the features and tools that businesses are already familiar with in Microsoft Word.

  • Performance

Document Production has been designed to be the document engineer, as opposed to Word, to achieve maximum performance.

  • Compatibility

Document Production uses Word as the template designer, with all the major features of Word available, including advanced merge tags.

  • Business Rules

Document Production includes a version of our Business Rules engine. This allows a user to pick and choose the elements or sections of the document they wish to be included.

  • Charting

Similar to the way Microsoft Word can embed a chart from Excel, Document Production allows you to create and use charts within your templates.

  • Document Rendering

Document Production creates the document using our highspeed, custombuilt rendering service. This allows data feeds from XML or SQL databases. It uses a very simple approach: select the document template you wish to use, the optional version (allowing older versions to also be used if required) and where you want the finished document to reside. Documents can be rendered to: DOC, DOCX, RTF, PDF and HTML.

Benefits

  • Simplicity

Minimal user training is required. The interface has been designed to be user friendly and easy to navigate. The system also features full audit and control functions to ensure compliance and consistency across enduser designed documents.

  • Performance

Documents can be generated in real time, allowing for them to be accessed on an adhoc basis through online selfserve portals, for example. Multipage documents, such as insurance policy documents, can be created in seconds allowing improved productivity.

  • Efficiency

Managing your organisation's document templates could not be easier. Templates go through the repository system from a development stage, through to testing and finally out to production, where they can then be used across the business.

Case Study

Who is the client?

Our client is a leading insurer.

What challenges did the client face?

Due to the nature of our client's work, they are required to turn around multiple quotes and illustrations for customers quickly. However, they faced complications in their ability to respond to market and regulatory changes; they were simply unable to adapt quickly enough. They were looking for a mechanism that would allow for web-based access. Our client had old technology systems which proved difficult when attempting to change the systems internally. In addition, replacing the old technology was not a cost effective solution.

How did Corporate Modelling help?

Corporate Modelling's services offer automated templates which are produced as a Word based document. Document Production allows these templates to be augmented when required, but is also available through a series of multiple channels. Despite the simplicity of the product, it allows for complex documents to be created. One installed, Corporate Modelling were even able to enhance various elements of Document Production for our client, such as the ability to change the documents into multiple formats; Word, PDF and HTML.

Was the training easy?

Full, running implementation only took a matter of weeks, but training was as little as 2-3 days and since Document Production is an add-on within Microsoft Word, the prior knowledge simplified the learning process.

How did the software improve the company and its processes?

The configurability of the software meant that is was able to deal with different organisational needs. Additionally, the flexibility to integrate with existing platforms and the web meant the challenge of not responding to market and regulatory needs was illuminated. Document Production's easy usability meant that existing skills could be utilised to create templates in Word.

When did it go live?

Document Production went live in 2012.
